Dr. Huaiyu Shao, currently is an associate professor in Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering (IAPME) at the University of Macau. Before the position in Macau, he was an assistant professor at International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research, Kyushu University. His research focuses on development of next generation energy storage technologies based on battery electrode and hydrogen energy materials.
He got his BS and PhD in chemistry from Peking University, China. He worked as a postdoc in National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan from July of 2005 to March of 2009 and in Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, Germany from April of 2009 to April of 2011. As a principle investigator, he has achieved grants over 2,700,000 USD. He has published 130 scientific papers at journals such as Advanced Materials, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Nano Energy, Advanced Functional Materials, ACS Nano, with a total of over 5000 citations, as well as one edited book, 2 special issues for SCI journals, 6 book chapters. He is selected into Stanford University's list of World’s Top 2% Scientists (single year and whole academic career). He has given more than 80 oral presentations in international conferences and academic visits and about 60 of them are invited talks or plenary ones. He contributes to organizing sessions for international conferences such as American Chemical Society (ACS) National Meeting 2013 Fall (Indianapolis, USA), U.S. National Congress on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (USNCTAM2014, East Lansing, USA), the 1st International Young Scientists Fusion Forum (2013, Chengdu, China), 2016 International Conference on Small Science (Prague, Czech), 2016 Macau Summit on Carbon and Energy Materials (Macau, China), 2017 International Conference on Environmental and Energy Engineering (Suzhou, China), 2018 International Conference on Nanoscience& Technology (New York, USA). He serves as reviewer for 60 scientific journals including Nature Communications, Science Advances, Nano Energy, Energy Storage Materials, etc. He also serves as editorial board member or guest editor for 4 Journals including Inorganics, Metals, etc. He is an international grant-proposal reviewer for French and Romania. The team of Aolisin Technology Co., Ltd. incubated by Dr. Shao at the University of Macau has won the first prize in the finals of the 2022 China (Changsha) Overseas Talent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (the first place in the green and low-carbon track), as well as the Second Place at the 2022-2023 "Maker China" SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest Final.
